Coach Mike Bystol M.S

bystolMike began his strength and conditioning career early in high school while training for football. His dedication to the weight room earned him many prestigious honors such as captain of his high school and college football team, All-American Honors and a division 1 college scholarship to East Carolina University.

Coach Mike Bystol has been building an impressive resume of success over his 23 years of experience. Originally hand-picked by Charles Poliquin “recognized as one of the top strength coaches in the world” for his work ethic and coaching talent, he was able to travel and coach some of the top athletes in the world while learning from the best. In 2005 Mike opened the Poliquin Performance Center in Northfield IL to honor the legacy of his mentor and as a way to commit to creating the future of the health and fitness industry.

Poliquin Performance Center proved to be a crucial stepping-stone in allowing Bystol to becoming a top strength coach in the United States. A 12,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility that offered premiere sports performance and adult personal training. PPC quickly earned the reputation as the #1 place to train for athletes and adults looking for RESULTS!!l

In 2013 mike moved PPC from Northfield to Highland Park and created Bystol Performance Center. BPC is one of the largest training facilities of its kind. A massive 25,000 sq. ft. private training facility packed with the latest state of the art equipment, 50 yards pro turf, Golf Training Center, Physical Therapy, Nutrition and a Wellness Center for recovery. Mike’s dream was to create a training facility that is welcoming to everyone from Professional Athletes to people just getting started. Always committed to learning and sharing the most cutting edge information in Strength Training, Nutrition, and Recovery. He is intensely dedicated to the development of athletes, while simultaneously making amazing results accessible to new clients from all walks of life.

Coach John Petruzzi

John brings over a decade of elite training knowledge and experience to BPC. John has vast experience training professional athletes, collegiate, high school, youth and general population clientele along with military/special operations.

John received his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Sport Science from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. While at UNCP he ran track collegiately specializing in the long jump (23’+) and 60-100m (6.7-10.9) sprints. Soon after he began interning with the strength and conditioning program at UNCP for 2.5 years. He is certified through USAW as a Sports Performance coach. He also has medical and clinical experience as an Exercise Physiologist and Rehab Specialist.

For the past 10 years John has been a professional powerlifter. He has been published in Powerlifter Today on training methodology and sport psychology. He has been ranked in the top 20 All-Time 198lb powerlifter’s list in history regardless of federation. He has totaled Elite in 2 different weight classes. His best lifts have been a 700lb squat, 470lb bench press and 765lb deadlift raw (no supportive suits or shirts).

Coach Joshua Ellis, M.S.

ellisJoshua Ellis, M.S. is a strength coach and exercise physiologist with multiple years of experience in the field of sports performance and personal training. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He has been under the mentorship of one of the top strength coaches in America, Mike Bystol, since May 2013. His practical experience and educational background make him an asset to anyone interested in resistance and energy system training.

Joshua Ellis has trained numerous amateur and professional athletes in the sports of hockey, football, golf, track and field, tennis, paddle tennis, baseball, basketball, karate, and field hockey. His clientele also includes many general population clients interested in altering body composition, creating a healthier lifestyle, nutritional and supplementation advice, or just to get a great workout.

Joshua earned his Master of Science degree in Exercise Science from Northeastern Illinois University. Prior to his graduate work, he studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology.

Coach AJ Wyroski

wyroskiA.J. Wyroski has been a Strength Coach at BPC since 2012. He studied at Western Illinois University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. After graduation, A.J. began his time at BPC under the mentorship of Head Strength Coach Mike Bystol. Mike saw a great future with him and hired him onto the BPC team.  A.J. has a passion for learning and has completed Charles Poliquin’s Level 1 BioPrint.

A.J. has worked with many populations through the years achieving the clients goals and gaining an edge in competition. He has worked with all skill levels of hockey players from beginners to professionals. A.J. has many years of experience training individuals for football, lacrosse, and baseball. He has had great success in helping general population clients achieve their goals in fat loss, mobility, and getting back to doing what they love.

He grew up in Round Lake Beach, IL. A.J. has competed in football, wrestling, and tennis. He plays various sports recreationally and maintains a clean eating lifestyle.

Coach Nick Cotten, B.S.

cottenNick Cotten is a personal fitness and sports performance coach from Fraser, Michigan. Nick earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology from Michigan State University, and is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. While pursuing his degree, Nick interned under the mentorship of world-renowned strength coach Mike Bystol here at BPC. Throughout his internship, he trained both professional NFL and NHL athletes. Upon his graduation, Mike Bystol offered Nick a permanent position onto the BPC coaching staff.
Nick’s current clientele consists of both professional and scholastic athletes in the sports of Baseball, Hockey, Lacrosse and Football, as well as, general population clients looking to improve body composition, injury rehabilitation and prevention, and overall lifestyle. Whether you are a professional/aspiring athlete, or someone who needs a fitness expert to aid in the achievement a specific goal, Nick is the perfect trainer to help you reach your potential.
